A Word from our Pastor - John 3:16

During Tim Tebow’s playing days as a quarterback for the University of Florida and the Denver Broncos, he was known to write “John 3:16” on his eye-black patches. In fact, the playoff game between Denver and Pittsburgh on January 8, 2012 is known as the “3:16 Game.” Not only did Tebow wear his familiar eye-black patches with John 3:16, Tebow also threw for 316 yards, his average yards per pass was 31.6 yards, the Steelers’ overall time of possession was 31 minutes and 6 seconds, and the game drew a TV rating of 31.6. That’s incredible.
Even without Tebow’s influence, John 3:16 is probably the most well-known Bible verse in the modern era. For over 50 years, it was the focal point of Billy Graham’s sermons. Beginning in the 1970s, John 3:16 has been seen on posters at all major sporting events. For many, it is the only bible verse they have memorized. The German reformer Martin Luther once said that John 3:16 is “the gospel in miniature” and “the heart of the Bible.” It truly is an incredible verse.
For the next 4 weeks in March, I will be preaching a sermon series simply entitled “3:16” that will focus on this verse. Throughout the series, we’ll discuss God’s love for all, the sacrifice of Christ, the inclusivity of the gospel, and the reality of eternal life. This will be a great series to invite your family, friends, and neighbors to church to hear about the life-changing truths within this one verse. I am praying for an outpouring of the Spirit as we focus on the essence of the gospel each and every week. Hope to see you Sunday!
